Do you ever wonder if your life could be different? Like really different? Nora is at the end of her rope—her cat just died and her job has her living from paycheck to paycheck. She's tired. She's done. On her way out, she enters the Midnight Library where she meets her childhood librarian Mrs. Elm once again. The Midnight Library is full of books, but the twist is that these books contain all the different possibilities Nora's life could have taken. It's not until she begins to explore her other lives and actually live that Nora finds her way back to her old life...with a few tweaks.

The cover art of this book is eye-catching, which is only fitting to complement the beautifully written story within the covers. The book focuses on Daunis who is part of the Anishinaabe community of Sault Ste. Marie in Michigan. After feeling the effects of the meth epidemic in her community, she agrees to become a confidential informant for a legal investigation. Despite her attempts to keep the "Secret Squirrel" and "real Daunis" parts of her life separate and protected, the lines are about to be blurred, and Daunis will learn just how strong she must be to face some of the more devastating truths in her life.
Angeline Boulley wrote in her author's note that she loved Nancy Drew books growing up, and they influenced the plot of this story; however, she also wanted to create a book with a Native protagonist–just like her. She did a wonderful job blending her two goals, and I can't recommend this book enough! |
