Martin Boyle comes to the realization that he will die in 12 weeks. With the help of a homeless kid and his middle school crush, Martin races to break the family curse that says there can only be one Martin Boyle alive at any given time. At the same time, Martin is starting to rebel against his germaphobic mother who has attempted to keep him in a (figurative) plastic bubble his entire life. With only 12 weeks to live, Martin learns the importance of actually living. This was a fun read, and I enjoyed the characters' quirks. AR book level = 4.3 AR points = 13 344 pages
Pancho is set on avenging his sister's death by killing the man who last saw her. Then, he is placed at Saint Anthony's, a boys' orphanage in New Mexico. Here he meets Daniel Quentin (D.Q.) who is dying of cancer. When D.Q. takes Pancho under his wing, Pancho starts to realize that there may be more to life than revenge. I recommend this book to anyone who reads! The revelations that Pancho and D.Q. come to just might be revelations you need to make, too. AR book level = 3.3 AR points = 1 233 pages
This is a graphic novel that is an option for my World Literature independent reading project. The novel revolves around three characters who all just want to fit into their different environments. As a graphic novel, the reading isn't too demanding. However, the reader also needs to pay attention to the illustrations/drawings to understand the full story. There are also some Chinese characters that you may want to research to find out what they mean since a few of the characters let them slip while talking. I recommend this book to anyone who likes graphic novels or interwoven story lines between characters who don't really have things in common. |
These are books I've read recently. Please ask me about them!
