Riding Fence falls into the western book genre. The story follows the Smithson brothers, hard-working ranchers who own the Triple Eight Ranch. When Daniel finds two abandoned kids in the brush, they take the brothers and their friends on an adventure from Kansas to Louisiana. I recommend this book to students who like to read about adventures on the frontier. Not currently in the AR system, but could be read for AR.
Four students decide to pull a heist at the United States Mint in order to help their school out of debt. Each has their own reason for joining the unlikely group of thieves. The book is told from each of the four students' perspectives, alternating chapters, so the reader gets to know each of them better. Will they pull off the heist? What about the nosy art teacher who seems to be watching them? This book was made into a Netflix film, which I did watch. However, the movie is quite different from the book. The heist and the ending of the story in particular does not follow the book. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read action books with some suspense. |
