I am a firm believer in independent studies; if someone wants to learn more about a topic that they are interested in, they should look into it on their own and direct their own learning. That being said, I enjoyed the question and answer format of Treuer's book; he breaks the book into chapters made up from the questions he or other Native community members have been asked about Native American culture as well as the answers he can give. As someone who did not grow up around much Native culture, I wanted to educate myself further on the subject. Treuer is a great resource particularly for Ojibwe customs and viewpoints as a member of that community.
