Jenna has a knack for selling shoes at the small store in Chicago. Little did she know she would catch the eye of the company's elderly owner who needs a driver to take her to Texas. Jenna learns quite a bit from her new boss as she drives from Chicago to Texas. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to take road trips or enjoys shoes.

Have you ever been really close with a neighbor? Or, do you house-sit for your neighbors once in a while? Christopher likes his neighbor's poodle and plays with him from time to time. However, when the poodle is found dead in his neighbor's yard, he talks with the other neighbors to get the information needed to solve the mystery. Simple, right? Not really—Christopher has autism which makes talking to other people difficult. This is another mystery, but it also fits in the realistic fiction genre. I recommend this book to anyone who likes solving mysteries or learning about other people's perspectives. AR book level = 5.2 AR points = 7 216 pages
A young orphan boy named Widge is taken in by a man who wishes to steal Shakespeare's Hamlet from an acting troupe performing at the Globe Theatre. After trying a few times without success, Widge attempts to join the group to gain access to the play book, but he soon finds a family with the odd group of actors. This book is considered historical fiction as William Shakespeare wrote many plays which were performed by troupes at the Globe along with other theatres. I recommend this book for anyone who has an interest in drama or mystery. AR book level = 5.7 AR points = 12 324 pages
Living on her aunt and uncle's farm is not the best; Creel has to share a bed with her cousins, and being a peasant girl in Medieval times means she is just one more mouth to feed. So, Creel leaves after her meeting with the Carlieff dragon, Theoradus, who has a hoard of shoes. Yes, shoes—not gold! As she makes her way to the King's Seat where she wishes to work as a seamstress, Creel finds yet another dragon. Later, when the dragons are in danger, will Creel be able to save them? Find out in this fantasy book. If you like this book, there are two more in the trilogy: Dragon Flight and Dragon Spear. Or, if dragons aren't quite your forte, Jessica Day George has several books that vary in content; however, all of them are works of fiction and most are fantasy. Set in the Louisiana bayou, Woof by Spencer Quinn follows Birdie Gaux and her newly adopted dog Bowser as they follow clues, trying to determine who stole the stuffed marlin Black Jack from Grammy’s store. Birdie believes this is an open and shut case, but she and Bowser soon find out about a treasure map connecting back to Birdie’s great-grandfather and World War II. This is the first of the Birdie and Bowser series, so there are a few more to read if you enjoy them! This is part of the mystery genre, but it's told from a dog's perspective. Though it may seem like it will be a long book, I recommend this to anyone who likes to read mysteries or enjoys reading from a perspective other than a human's. |
